Meet Holly Rindge

Ocean Life + Ceramic Life

Holly Rindge is an artisan and ocean conservationist living in California.

Holly hosts and produces the Breathline Project, a series of conversations with scientists while they make ‘sediment cores’ in clay that reflect their unique scientific journeys. Holly started the Breathline Project as a way to humanize scientists, and connect communities to science, through stories and art. The first public installation is planned for 2026.

Holly has worked in marine science and conservation for more than a decade, communicating research and building collaborative projects on issues from sea level rise to ocean plastic pollution to climate resilience. She earned her Master of Advanced Study in Marine Biodiversity and Conservation from Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego in 2012. In 2022, curious to deepen her knowledge of the therapeutic benefits of clay, Holly completed a ceramic education residency at the Archie Bray Foundation for Ceramic Arts and a Certificate in Social Emotional Arts from UCLArts & Healing.

Holly originally built her mobile ceramics studio in the back of a converted box truck. She and her studio pup, Luna, traveled California’s coast and made pottery. Holly is currently setting up her studio amongst the coastal redwoods of California, and is looking forward to opening her ceramics shop in 2026.

Holly creates hand-built pieces that evoke coastal California pottery from 100 years ago, when her great-great-grandmother, May Rindge, founded Malibu Potteries. Whether using the cuerda seca glazing technique or press molds, Holly's pieces are grounded in rich color and floral motifs that continue the tradition of exceptional design and craft. Pottery for a cherished home.
